HiVision is a Chinese company that has a strange tendency — they usually never offer their products outside China but they often turn up at international trade shows and show off really cheap versions of the latest computer trends. So it should come as no surprise to anyone reading this that they have a really cheap tablet on display at CeBit this year.
Spotted by Jkkmobile, this tablet is seriously low powered. It has a Samsung made 800Mhz ARM11 chip at its heart, with 256MB DDR2 RAM, a 7inch 800×480 (WVGA) touchscreen display (although it doesn’t mention ‘touchscreen’ on the spec sheet). It is running some version of Android and boasts all the features that Android has, including the native apps and the full Google integration into the device. I guess if you have it, you can/should flaunt it.
But nothing changes the fact that this is a seriously underpowered tablet it is likely to cause a lot of frustration under heavy usage. So why bother at all? Well, because it has a really small price tag — estimated at $100. Well, within China at any rate. It is quite possible that HiVision comes to these trade shows in the hopes of securing US distributors and then going home empty handed.
The battery is a strong point though. The PWS700HA: 7″ Android MID (that’s the name) from HiVision has a 4200mAh battery, which Liliputing guesstimates at about 6 hours. I would say that is about right, given the LCD display’s size and the processor.
